Needless to say, this list is self-explanatory. These are the comics and graphic novels that I’ve devoured lately, whether they’re old favorites that have a new volume, new loves that I can’t resist, or some combination of the two. One of my favorite things to order when I was the Young Adult Specialist were titles for our graphic novel section, and I can’t resist a good comic that crosses my desk.
Adulthood is a Myth/Big Mushy Happy Lump by Sarah Andersen (I have literally shoved these books into the hands of everyone I know and made them read especially relevant panels. I’m talking about you, pedicure/manicure.)
Lumberjanes, Vol. 5: Band Together by Noelle Stevenson, Shannon Watters, Carolyn Nowak, Grace Ellis, Brooke A. Allen (Friendship to the max y’all.)
Everything by Kate Beaton. (And I mean everything. King Baby was a goddamn joy to read. I didn’t even have a kid to read it to. I just read it in the staff break room and treasured every page.)
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur by Amy Allen (A small girl genius and a dinosaur from another time that fight crime with science? YES PLEASE.)
Paper Girls by Brian K. Vaughan (Sci-fi, paper routes, badass women, and Brian K. Vaughan. Yep, I’m there.)
I Hate Fairyland by Skottie Young. (I love how Skottie’s mind works. Gert is an asshole middle-aged woman in the body of a precious little girl, and I wouldn’t have her any other way.)
The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl by Ryan North. (SQUIRREL GIRL AND TIPPY TOE FOR LIFE.)
